‘Pray for us, please’: Family of man randomly beaten in Lynn seeks help

"We need all the help to support his newborn baby, and his family."

The family of a 32-year-old father, who police say was one of two people recently attacked at random in Lynn, is asking for the public’s support.

Two individuals were beaten on Feb. 10, Boston 25 News reports. A 29-year-old woman was attacked from behind as she walked around 5:30 p.m. in Market Square; she was hit with what investigators say was possibly a baseball bat, according to the news station.

A witness contacted police, who ultimately made an arrest. The injuries are not expected to be life threatening, the news outlet reports.

But minutes after the first attack, a man was also attacked from behind on Western Avenue with potentially the same kind of weapon, police said. The man, Celso Esteban, was unconscious afterwards and is in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to Boston 25 News.

His brother, Bryan Esteban, said Celso Esteban was going to the grocery store when the incident happened.

He told the news outlet he went looking for his brother and found him on the ground. A witness — whom police are now seeking to speak with — told Bryan someone hit his brother and ran off, Bryan Esteban recalled.

“We did have one male that stopped, and talked to a family member on scene, and passed some information onto him,” Lynn police Lieutenant Michael Kmiec told the news station. “However, that witness was gone prior to our arrival. We are looking for that witness, or anyone to come forward.”

According to Boston 25 News, Celso Esteban just became a father last week. He was preparing to show off his newborn son at his nephew’s first birthday party at his brother’s house.

Bryan Esteban launched a GoFundMe online fundraiser on Tuesday to help support his brother, who remains hospitalized.

As of Wednesday morning, the effort had raised a couple hundred dollars with a $30,000 goal.

“He has to pay bills and rent. More bills that are to come and he will also need time to regain his health, if he ever does,” the page says. “We need all the help to support his newborn baby, and his family. Pray for us, please.”
