BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan announced Thursday that she has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Massachusetts Democrat said in a statement that after repeatedly testing negative for the disease once while in Washington last week and again upon arriving back to the Commonwealth in accordance with statewide guidelines  she learned Thursday evening that she had tested positive for the virus.

“I am fortunate to currently be asymptomatic, and I have immediately begun to self-quarantine,” she said in a statement. “Both my Massachusetts and Washington offices will continue to operate remotely, and I plan to cast my votes next week using the House’s proxy voting system.”

Trahan tweeted about the positive test Thursday evening, adding that her team would still remain a resource to residents of the state’s 3rd Congressional District, which she represents.

Trahan’s communications director, Francis Grubar, also told Boston.com that “upon the medical advice of the Attending Physician, the Congresswoman received her first vaccine dose when she was in Washington last week.”

In her statement, Trahan urged everyone to take necessary precautions as the pandemic rages on.

“I encourage everyone to continue taking this virus seriously,” she said, “And to follow the science and data-driven guidance to wear a mask, maintain a safe social distance from others, avoid large gatherings, and stay home whenever possible.”
