Salem police to file charges against driver who struck teenage skateboarder, left scene

Salem police are planning to file a criminal complaint against a resident who allegedly hit a skateboarder with their vehicle and then left the scene.The incident reportedly happened around 5:56 p.m. on Jan. 12 within the intersection of Ord and Aborn streets, Salem police said in a press release.Surveillance video of the incident showed the moment the 17-year-old skateboarder was struck by the front of the vehicle, sending her tumbling to the ground. She immediately got up and walked toward the involved vehicle.“She knows no skating on the street and go home before dark,” Joy Bramer, the skateboarder’s mom, told 7 News. “And she’s a teenager just having fun with her friends so she’s been very hard on herself. She’s blaming herself.”Police did not publicly identify the driver of the vehicle, simply noting that they are 25 years old. The driver reportedly contacted Salem police around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, police said.
