One person and ‘over a dozen dogs’ died in a Holliston house fire, authorities say
A couple escaped the blaze before one of them re-entered the burning structure to try to save the dogs, officials said.
One person and more than a dozen dogs died in a Holliston house fire late Wednesday night, officials said.
A couple escaped the blaze at 623 Winter St. before one of them re-entered the burning structure to try to get the dogs to safety, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services said in a statement.
According to Boston 25 News, firefighters found that person, who later died, trapped on the second floor of the home near a bedroom.
“Both (people) were transported to a local hospital,” the statement said. “One person succumbed to their injuries. The dogs perished.”
About 15 to 20 dogs were in the home, according to officials, and none of them survived. Holliston Deputy Fire Chief Mark Dellicker told Boston 25 some of the animals were approximately the size of a Great Dane and others were smaller.
The fire is under investigation by the Holliston fire and police departments and state police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, according to the statement.
