Hazmat technicians are clearing a downed utility pole that blocked a South Boston street, destroyed a metal fence, and spilled around 50 gallons of mineral oil, the Boston Fire Department tweeted Monday night.

The pole fell at 8 p.m. at 56 Ellery Street, which is near Andrew Station on the MBTA Red Line. Power has been shut off and Eversource is cleaning up the scene and removing the pole.

The fire department did not share what caused the utility pole to fall and was not immediately available to comment.
