New details released after officer fatally shoots Walgreens robbery suspect in Lynn
The shooting happened on Witt Street on Monday morning.
Authorities have released further details after an officer shot and killed the suspect in a Revere Walgreens robbery Monday morning in Lynn.
Around 8:07 a.m., Revere police were called to the reported robbery at the store at 430 Broadway. Witnesses there told officers that the suspect, a white man, had taken off in a silver BMW, and they were able to provide a plate number, according to an updated press release from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
Revere officers soon caught up with the reportedly involved vehicle on Route 107 and tried to perform a traffic stop. The suspect allegedly didn’t stop, and, around 8:15 a.m., Revere police were in contact with Lynn authorities since the vehicle was headed toward the neighboring city, according the release.
A Lynn officer performing detail work at the intersection of Summer and Witt streets then saw the vehicle being pursued by Revere police, authorities said. The two turned onto Witt Street, which is a dead end.
“Upon observing the Revere officer outside of his vehicle and pinned by the suspect vehicle, the Lynn officer discharged his service weapon at the suspect,” the release said. “The suspect died at the scene.”
The Revere officer was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries believed to be nonlife-threatening, the district attorney’s office said.
