‘The sunfish is FINE’: Ocean sunfish off Wareham draws calls to police
"PLEASE STOP CALLING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THIS SUNFISH!!"
Much like several years ago, when two men from the Boston area saw an ocean sunfish flopping its fins on the surface of the water and were convinced the animal needed some sort of assistance, a sunfish has turned up off Wareham, and, yes, people think this one needs help, too.The sunfish has been spotted in Broad Cove, and the town’s Department of Natural Resources assured the public over the holiday weekend that they know about it — and that it’s “FINE.”“We are aware of a sunfish in Broad Cove,” officials said on Facebook. “We have checked on it, and it is doing normal sunfish activities. [It’s] swimming. It is not stranded or suffering. The sunfish is FINE.”For those who didn’t see the viral video, or are curious about ocean sunfish, National Geographic notes that the ocean sunfish can measure about 11 feet, weigh up to 2 ½ tons, and live about a decade.“[Don’t] be jealous just because [it’s] not swimming weather anymore!” Wareham officials said on Facebook.“PLEASE STOP CALLING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THIS SUNFISH!!”
