Bicyclist killed in Harvard Square crash with tractor-trailer identified
The crash happened around 9:42 a.m. on Aug. 18.
The bicyclist struck and killed by a tractor-trailer near the Harvard Square MBTA station last month has been publicly identified.Darryl Willis, 55, died when his bike collided with the truck on Massachusetts Avenue near Dunster Street around 9:42 a.m. on Aug. 18, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan in a release. Willis was found in the right travel lane and bicycle lane at 1401 Massachusetts Ave.; he was pronounced dead.The 54-year-old driver of the truck stayed on scene, authorities said.No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon. The investigation is continuing.Since the fatal crash, Cambridge officials have announced that the travel lanes on Massachusetts Avenue between the kiosk in the square and Harvard Yard will be narrowed to allow for a new “quick-build separated bike lane,” which will run from Dunster Street toward Church Street.
