Bicyclist killed in crash with tractor-trailer near Harvard Square T station

A bicyclist is dead following a traffic crash involving a tractor-trailer near the Harvard Square T station, according to Cambridge police.
The crash happened around 9:42 a.m. Tuesday, police said in a news release. The Middlesex district attorney’s office said later Tuesday the bicyclist was a man in his 50s, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity hasn’t been released as authorities work to notify his family.
Authorities believe the tractor-trailer was heading westbound on Massachusetts Avenue, away from the square, when the incident occurred. The driver of the truck stayed on scene.
“Expect significant traffic delays in the area, as an active crash investigation is taking place,” police said on Twitter at 10:08 a.m.
Commuters were also encouraged to take an alternative route, police said in the release.
Authorities haven’t said if any charges will be filed.
