Officials in Orleans issued a warning to beachgoers about the dangers of digging too deep in the sand after a woman and teen were rescued from a sand collapse at Nauset Beach. The Orleans Fire Department responded to Nauset Beach around 5 p.m. on Friday to the report of two people trapped in the sand in a remote area, north of the area where people are allowed to drive their cars on the beach. Upon arrival, EMTs found a teenage boy, buried up to his mid-torso,  and a woman in her 40s,  buried up to her waist, in a 6-foot deep-hole in the sand, according to the fire department. The pair were safely rescued by 5:30 p.m. and declined transport to the hospital after being evaluated by paramedics.Orleans Fire Chief said in a statement he was thankful no one was seriously hurt. “This situation highlights the dangers of digging in the sand,” he said. “Digging in the beach sand is an innocent exercise, but the potential for danger is real. [Friday’s] lesson is a reminder to never dig holes beyond the knee height of the smallest person in a beach going group.”According to CBS Boston, it took an 11-person crew to dig out the woman and teen, a mother and son.
