Cambridge police issued an apology after a member of the department called Rep. Joe Kennedy III “another liberal f[——] jerk” in a tweet from the department’s official Twitter account on Sunday. The member “inadvertently” used the department’s account instead of their personal account, the department said in the apology

, calling the tweet “inappropriate, unprofessional and disrespectful.” While the explicit political commentary was “quickly removed,” according to the department, screenshots were taken by other users and reposted on the social media platform.

“Another liberal f[——] jerk who just happens to be better then [sic] the clown he’s running against. Sad for us,” the tweet read in full, replying to this WCVB tweet:

The WCVB story followed an interview Kennedy gave on the news station’s “On the Record” segment. In the interview, Kennedy called for more COVID-19 testing and said the disbursement of personal protective equipment, which has led to somewhat clandestine plans by governors and others to obtain it, is “shameful” and “embarrassing.”

“These actions do not reflect the professionalism that we as a department take great pride in & we want to sincerely apologize to the Congressman and those individuals the statement was directed at,” the department’s apology says. “The department will take appropriate action in response to this regrettable incident.”
