Former Bates College lacrosse player, 25, remains in medically induced coma fighting COVID-19
Jack Allard "has finally shown some slight improvement, but he is hardly out of the woods" in his battle against the coronavirus, his uncle says.

Jack Allard, a former Bates College lacrosse player, remains hospitalized after he was admitted last month while battling COVID-19.
“A robustly fit 25-year-old former All-American lacrosse player commuting to work in New York City, Jack was hospitalized Sunday, March 15 and remains in a medically induced coma,” his uncle, Nick Allard, the former dean and president of Brooklyn Law School, wrote in a column published in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle Tuesday.
Jack Allard, a Ridgewood, New Jersey, native and 2016 Bates graduate, was working in Manhattan when he became sick and checked himself into JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, where he tested positive for coronavirus.
He did not have a cough before he became ill and had no known pre-existing conditions.

He was later airlifted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where his family hoped he could receive the experimental drug Remdesivir.
In his column, Nick Allard lamented “the confusion, red tape and mismanagement” that delayed getting his nephew tested and receiving his results, and that blocked treatment options — a process “almost certainly experienced by people everywhere in the country,” he wrote.
“Jack has finally shown some slight improvement, but he is hardly out of the woods,” Nick Allard wrote. “Our prayers fly to Jack, his dad Andy, mom Genny, sister Kate and his love Michaela.”
