No, all of the wolves at Wolf Hollow in Ipswich didn’t escape

And no, a staff member wasn’t attacked there, either.

Despite what you may have seen online, all of the wolves at Wolf Hollow in Ipswich are accounted for and no staff member from the educational conservation organization is in critical condition after an attack.

A fake social media post, made to look like it came from neighboring police in Hamilton, circulated Wednesday morning. It said the wolves had escaped overnight after an attack on a staff member and were seen in Hamilton, and “several” pets had been reported missing in the area.

“There is NO TRUTH to a social media posting that has circulated this morning, Wednesday, April 8, about wolves that broke free from Wolf Hollow in Ipswich and were spotted in Hamilton,” Hamilton police said Wednesday afternoon.

The department said it had received 32 calls about the fake post, which directed people to call them.

Wolf Hollow, which shared an image of the false message on Facebook, also debunked the info.

“This information is not true in any way and we want to assure the North Shore community there was no escape, or threat to public safety,” the nonprofit wrote.

“Our safety protocols include head counts multiple times a day, monthly fence inspections, video surveillance and a trained member of the Wolf Hollow staff on site at all times,” it added, saying police were “looking into the source” of the fake post.

For what it’s worth, Wolf Hollow also currently has 10 wolves, according to its website, not seven as the post stated. It’s temporarily closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“This is a scary time for all of us during the continuing Covid-19 Pandemic and it is extremely disappointing that our name and reputation was used to instill more fear in the community,” the organization wrote.
