Milford police officer shoots, kills pipe-wielding suspect, officials say
The man charged at the officer before the shooting, according to authorities.
A suspect was shot and killed by a Milford police officer Sunday night after he wielded a metal pipe and charged at police, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office.
The officer, whose identity was not released, responded around 8:30 p.m. to a reported disturbance in the Glines Avenue neighborhood that prosecutors say was caused by Philip Castonguay III, 39, of 32 Glines Ave.
“Castonguay was wielding a metal pipe and charged at the arriving officer,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement Monday. “The responding officer shot Castonguay.”
Castonguay was brought to Milford Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The officer was also brought to the hospital per department policy, but was uninjured, according to prosecutors.
The officer was placed on administrative leave, in line with department policy, officials said.
The incident remains under investigation.
