Former Bates College All-American lacrosse player, 25, in critical condition battling coronavirus

A former Bates College, two-time All-American lacrosse player is in a medically-induced coma after contracting the coronavirus.
Jack Allard, 25, is at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where his family hopes he will soon be able to receive the experimental drug Remdesivir, the Sun Journal reports.
The 2016 Bates graduate began showing symptoms of back pain, fever, and vomiting on March 13, according to the newspaper. He did not have a cough beforehand and had not traveled internationally recently. Allard had no known pre-existing conditions, the Journal reports.

A Ridgewood, New Jersey, native who was working in Manhattan when he became sick, Allard checked himself into a hospital on March 15, was tested for COVID-19, and was later confirmed positive.
He was airlifted from JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, to the hospital in Philadelphia on Wednesday, according to the Journal. Allard is currently breathing with assistance from a ventilator and remains in critical condition, the newspaper reports.
Remdesivir could potentially slow the coronavirus to help Allard’s immune system to fight it off, according to the Journal.
“His doctors say this is something that can really help him,” his mother, Genny Allard, told Fox News Network Tuesday. “We really think this is the best chance he has to survive it.”
