The Make Way for Ducklings statues are joining Bostonians in practicing social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The iconic statues, which have donned everything from Patriots jerseys to pink political hats in recent years, have been outfitted with masks along with Irish green attire for St. Patrick’s Day.

“Boston’s ducklings responsibly practicing social distancing *and* wearing face (beak?) masks,” wrote one person who spotted the ducklings in the Boston Public Garden.

Public health officials are urging everyone to practice social distancing — keeping six feet away from others as much as possible — to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has rapidly spread across the globe. As of Saturday, there were 525 cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts and two related deaths.
