Stop and Shop worker fatally struck while walking to work at North Reading store
The incident happened around 6:28 a.m. Thursday, police said.
A woman was walking to work at the North Reading Stop and Shop when she was struck and killed by an SUV Thursday morning.Police were called to 270 Main St. around 6:28 a.m. for a motor vehicle crash, they said in a news release. The woman succumbed to her injuries; she has not been publicly identified.“We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our dedicated associates passed away in a tragic incident as she was walking to work at our store in North Reading this morning,” the company said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to our associate’s family and to the store team. Our employee assistance team is at the store to help counsel and support our associates, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement in their investigation.”The driver involved stayed on scene, and North Reading police are working with state police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
