Man, 24, fatally struck by commuter rail train in Rockport Wednesday night
The incident happened around 7:38 p.m.
A 24-year-old Rockport man died after reportedly being struck by a commuter rail train departing Rockport for Boston Wednesday night, according to local police.Police were notified around 7:38 p.m. that the man, who has not been publicly identified pending notification of his family, had been struck near Piggery Crossing, Rockport police said in a news release.Police don’t suspect foul play, and transit police are working alongside state police detectives on the investigation.Commuter rail officials said on Twitter that the train that departed Rockport at 7:30 p.m. was “stopped after Rockport due to police activity in the right of way. The train is expected to be severely delayed.”

Shuttle buses replaced service between Gloucester and Rockport, and inbound trains started at Gloucester station, subsequent Twitter notifications said.
