Watch: Canton coach reacts quickly in viral video as gymnast falls mid-flip
The 9-year-old was heading straight for the cement before her coach leapt to catch her.
As a 9-year-old gymnast ran toward tumbling mats, launching herself off a springboard and into a complicated flip maneuver, she started to lean right, tilting unnaturally. But her coach stepped in just a split-second before she plummeted toward the cement. The crowd gasped as he caught her mid-fall.

The 11-second video was posted in February by the gymnast’s mother, Justine Ramos, and quickly went viral, amassing 6.7 thousand shares on Facebook alone.
Her coach, Chad Buczek, an Easton resident and owner of Metro South Gymnastics Academy in Canton, commented on the video.
“The absolute best part of this post is the fact that everyone is tagging their coaches that deserve so much credit for keeping their athletes SAFE,” Buczek wrote. “That’s ALL that matters. I take my hat off for all the coaches that have made saves! Teachers and coaches alike!”
He told The Enterprise that his quick thinking was reflexive.
“Honestly, it’s just instincts,” Buzcek said. “I knew it was off. And I knew I had to get in there.”
He said she likely would have landed on her feet, but the cement might have caused an injury.
While the video came as a shock to most on the internet, notching slots on national news including both Inside Edition and Good Morning America, Buzcek noted it was just another day for him.
“For me, it wasn’t as big of a deal,” he told The Enterprise. “It just kind of happens.”
