Driver to be cited for Arlington hit-and-run crash involving pedestrian, police say

Police identified the driver as an 80-year-old Cambridge man.

An 80-year-old Cambridge man will be cited after police say he struck a pedestrian with a vehicle on Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington Saturday night and drove away.

The man, who was not identified, was slated to be cited for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with injuries, Arlington police said in a statement Sunday.

“We would like to thank the Cambridge Police Department and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section for their assistance with the investigation,” police Chief Julie Flaherty said in the statement. “Thanks to all of their help, we’ve been able to identify the operator of the vehicle.”

At the scene, officers found a 48-year-old Baldwinville man in the street, suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries, officials said.

He was brought to an area hospital and was in stable condition as of Sunday morning, police said.

The driver is scheduled to appear in Cambridge District Court at a later date.
