Maine father demands action after 7-year-old injured in shooting

“I want justice. I want to know who did this and why.”

A Maine father is demanding action after his 7-year-old daughter was seriously injured in a shooting that occurred Friday when someone fired a gun at their apartment building, the Morning Sentinel reports“I want answers,” Charles Frost Jr. told the newspaper from Maine Medical Center in Portland. “I want justice. I want to know who did this and why.” His daughter, Emahleeah, was eating a snack in her bedroom on the second floor of the Waterville building when the shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m.  Police said in a Saturday press conference that a motive for the shooting remains under investigation, WMTW reports. Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to contact police.

A bullet missed the 7-year-old’s spinal cord by about an inch, the father told the newspaper, but became lodged in one of her vertebrae. She’s expected to remain in the hospital for at least another week and will need to wear a neck brace for three months.

“It’s going to be a long road for her — for all of us,” Frost told the Sentinel. “Our main concern is her having a speedy recovery and her getting back to normal — running and playing and singing and having a blast.”

A GoFundMe page to assist with the 7-year-old’s medical expenses has raised more than $12,000.
