No one to be indicted in death of Daniel Hollis, Emerson college student

No one will be indicted in the death of Daniel Hollis, the Emerson College sophomore who died following an apparent altercation last fall, a Suffolk County Grand Jury has decided.
“As we have said since the September 28, 2019, assault that ultimately claimed Mr. Hollis’ life, my office will continue to provide all of the resources and support that his loved ones may need as they process and grieve Daniel’s death,” Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said in a statement released Friday evening. “The Grand Jury has spoken and we respect its findings, however difficult they are to hear.”
Hollis, 19, sustained brain damage after falling during the altercation, which happened near the Allston-Brighton Line, and didn’t regain consciousness. He died on Oct. 2. A Hopedale native, Hollis played on the Emerson men’s lacrosse team.
On Oct. 8, the Marine Corps confirmed that a Marine was being investigated as part of Hollis’s death probe, and acknowledged in a later statement that he could be facing “very serious” charges.
“The investigation that preceded the Grand Jury’s vote was incredibly thorough and painstakingly detailed,” Rollins said in the statement. “I’m proud of the work done by Assistant District Attorney Sarah McEvoy, who led the Grand Jury proceedings, and Victim Witness Advocate Tina Nguyen, who supported the Hollis family throughout this extremely challenging process. I’m grateful to the Boston Police detectives who worked so diligently on this case.”
