4-alarm blaze rips through South Boston duplex, injures 2 firefighters
The fire ignited around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
A four-alarm fire tore through a South Boston duplex Wednesday night, displacing seven people from their homes and leaving two firefighters with minor injuries, according to fire officials.

The blaze was reported around 5:20 p.m. at 409 E. Seventh St. It ended up causing an estimated $2 million in damage, officials said.

Chief of Operations John Dempsey said the building was unoccupied and under construction, but the attached building at 407 E. Seventh St. saw exposure to the fire. All residents were safely evacuated.

The two firefighters transported by Boston Emergency Medical Services were the only injuries reported. Red Cross Massachusetts was reportedly helping those affected by the flames with housing.

The fire department’s investigative unit stayed on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
