Boston College identifies student struck by commuter rail train in West Newton
Police don't suspect foul play, they said.
Boston College has identified the student struck by a commuter rail train in West Newton on Friday.
Ariel Cox, 20, a sophomore, was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, according to a spokesperson for Boston College. Her family, as well as members of the BC Campus Ministry, were with her.
Transit police were called to the scene around 10 a.m., and Cox was brought to a nearby hospital with “serious injuries,” authorities said in a news release. Police don’t believe foul play was involved.
In a letter to students late Friday afternoon, Joy Moore, vice president of student affairs, said Cox is in critical condition, and remains in the hospital.
“Ariel, who is from Newton, Mass, is the daughter of BC Economics Professor Donald Cox,” Moore said.
Officials said on Twitter that a Worcester line train was stopped at West Newton due to police activity at 10:05 a.m. Another train was later sent to fetch passengers aboard the stopped train.
