HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Fights broke out in three malls in Connecticut Thursday, leading to arrests, minor injuries and at least one temporary closure.
The Connecticut Post Mall in Milford was ordered closed around 6 p.m. Thursday after several fights broke out among teens around the mall’s food court and spread throughout the mall.
Police stationed at the mall became overwhelmed and requested help from state police and other area towns.
No arrests or injuries were reported but the mall on Friday imposed temporary restrictions for youths.
It said anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult during the afternoon and evening hours from Friday through Sunday.
At Westfarms Mall in West Hartford, police quelled a large fight among youths, also around 6 p.m.
They charged one juvenile with interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct and released the youth to their parents with a summons.
And at the Westfield Trumbull Mall in Trumbull, police arrested seven people, including a 19-year-old man and six juveniles after several fights broke out across the mall at around 7 p.m. They were charged with breach of peace and disorderly conduct.
Two juveniles were also treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
Other Connecticut malls have imposed curfews to discourage large brawls among youths.
