Caged lizards left on sidewalk in Stoughton, police say

Police are asking for help locating the owner.

Stoughton Police Department

Stoughton police responded to a cold-blooded situation on Saturday when someone reported finding cages containing an assortment of lizards on a sidewalk. The department took to Facebook to try to locate the owner, sharing photos of the spotted, spiky creatures.“Have you ever walked down the street carrying your lizards in a cage and put them down for a second to maybe update your Facebook page or scratch your nose or something?” the post says. “If so have you ever just continued your brisk walk and gotten to your destination and yelled… ‘oh wait… my lizards!! Where did I leave them last?’ Well if you have you may be in luck, because we have recovered these remarkably creepy yet shockingly majestic creatures. And before we get all super judgey about the thought of some careless lizard owner ditching their lizards in the street, we are going to assume the circumstances outlined above happened.”Stoughton Lt. John Bonney told Boston.com that the department doesn’t expect someone will come forward to claim the pets, but police are hoping that someone who may know something about what happened will talk with them. Jokes aside, the lizards were left in a perilous situation.“Those things can’t be left outside,” Bonney said, adding that they need heat lamps to survive. The lizards have been placed in a professional’s care, and the town’s animal control officer will help with finding them a new permanent home.“Lizards we don’t see a lot,” Bonney said. “But people, when they can’t take care of their animals, they’ll just abandon them and hope someone will take care of them.”
