Peabody school superintendent dies unexpectedly

Cara Murtagh, superintendent of Peabody schools, has died unexpectedly, according to Mayor Ted Bettencourt.“I am very sorry to share with you the terrible news of the sudden and unexpected passing of School Superintendent Cara Murtagh,” Bettencourt said in a Facebook post. “Superintendent Murtagh’s talent, energy and can-do spirit inspired all those whose lives she touched. Her selfless devotion to our students, faculty and staff, combined with her lifelong passion for education, lifted the entire Peabody school community.”Murtagh had just become the district’s superintendent for the 2018-2019 school year after working for the district for two decades, according to The Salem News, in roles that included

She was a Peabody native.
