93-year-old Connecticut man charged with running over man
TRUMBULL, Conn. (AP) — A 93-year-old Connecticut man has been charged with running over and killing a 73-year-old man.
The New Haven Register reports that Edward Socha, of Trumbull, was charged Monday with negligent homicide in the Feb. 8 death of Alexander “Barry” Trup, of Easton.
Witnesses told police Socha was backing toward the Trumbull transfer station to unload material when his car lurched back and knocked Trup to the ground.
The car reportedly continued moving backward and went over Trup.
Socha told police he was backing up when the car suddenly accelerated. He said he didn’t see Trup.
Trup told police he tapped on Socha’s trunk as he backed up.
He died at the hospital shortly after.
Socha’s lawyer called the crash a “terrible tragedy.”
