Watch: Man recognized as a hero after pulling man from burning car
“For him to do what he did, you know I’m here to spend a little bit more time with my grandchildren.”
A Connecticut man is being honored as a hero after he pulled another man from a burning vehicle, a dramatic rescue that was all caught on a nearby surveillance video.Stafford Springs Fire Department shared the video Wednesday morning to its Facebook page. The incident took place around 6:50 p.m. on Nov. 1. Edward Cyr and his wife had gone out to dinner and were in their vehicle when a vehicle traveling in the other lane exploded as they were about to pass by.

In the video, flames appear to explode from the vehicle and the whole thing is quickly engulfed in flames. On the opposite side of the street, the video shows Cyr pull over and run toward the flaming car.
“We’re coming into the center of town and we heard a big boom and the car actually shook both me and my wife,” Cyr told NBC Connecticut.
Glenwood Little, the man in the other vehicle, told the news station he was transporting gas cans to fill his generators when he heard one tip over after going over a bump in the road. He heard the gas pouring out; he was smoking a cigarette.
Cyr said as he ran toward the vehicle, he saw the door opening.
“I went to grab him and he was stuck in his seatbelt,” Cyr told NBC Connecticut. “So I had to reach in and unbuckle him, and then pull him out.”
The video shows an ambulance quickly pull up near the flaming vehicle.
“Everything happened so fast,” Little told the news station. He’s currently recovering from burns on his hands and face. “For him to do what he did, you know I’m here to spend a little bit more time with my grandchildren.”
Stafford town officials recently recognized Cyr for his efforts, and photos of the recognition were posted to the Stafford Fire Department’s Facebook page.
“Mr Cyr, you are a hero,” the post said.
