Man attempting to help those inside disabled vehicle fatally struck on I-495
The disabled vehicle had reportedly struck a deer before the Good Samaritan stopped to help.
When a vehicle struck a deer on I-495 southbound in Raynham early Friday, a Taunton man stopped to help. Then he was fatally struck by another vehicle, according to state police.

An Audi SUV was traveling on the highway just before 1 a.m. when it hit a deer and was disabled in the highway’s middle lane, a release from state police said. There were three adults, including the driver, and a 7-year-old child in the vehicle at the time.
Shortly after that, Luis Contreras, 37, of Taunton, who was driving a Toyota Tacoma, saw the vehicle and pulled into the breakdown lane. He got out of the truck and walked into the road to offer help to those in the Audi.
It was while Contreras was walking on the highway that he was struck by an Infiniti, operated by a Rockland man, 21. Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Infiniti stayed on scene, authorities said.
No one else was injured, and all three vehicles were towed, according to state police. Officials closed the middle and right lanes while authorities were on scene; those lanes were reopened prior to 4 a.m.
