Hudson police seeking donations to help sergeant who suffered stroke while abroad

The Hudson Police Department is helping raise money in support of 53-year-old Scott Chaulk, a sergeant on the force who suffered a stroke at the end of October.

Chaulk was visiting his son, who is studying abroad, in Barcelona, Spain, at the time of the stroke. He has been in the hospital since Oct. 30 and has gone through one surgery, according to a release. Doctors do not yet know when he will be allowed to return home.
“We are all very concerned about Scott, his wife, Donna, and their sons, Ryan and Zach, and we are keeping them in our thoughts constantly,” Police Chief Michael Burks said in a statement.
“Anything that members of the Hudson community can do to help them in their time of need would be greatly appreciated, as we want to do whatever is possible to ease the burden brought on by this sudden turn of events,” Burke wrote.
Chaulk has been with the Hudson Police Department since 1998, according to the release. He started out as a patrolman before being promoted to detective and then sergeant.
A GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the Chaulk family had raised more than $30,000 as of 1 p.m. Thursday. The Chaulk Family Medical Fund was also set up for donations to help with medical costs.
