A young boy who contracted meningococcal disease in Boston in October has been released from the intensive-care unit at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Lucas Cook, 20 months old, was released from the hospital’s ICU on Sunday night, WHDH reports.
Cook was one of two local children to come down with the disease, which is spread through saliva. Both kids attended Horizons for Homeless Children daycare centers, but it’s unclear if the two cases are connected.
Massachusetts has between 10 and 15 cases of meningococcal disease each year, and it’s become “less common in recent years,” according to a health advisory from the Boston Public Health Commission at the time the children were diagnosed.
