A junior at the University of Massachusetts’s Amherst campus was found dead in a car parked at the school’s football stadium late Wednesday, according to a UMass spokesperson.
Erick Kang’Ethe was 21. The cause of his death has not been released.
“The death is non-criminal in nature, and no foul play is suspected,” a spokesperson from the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office said in an email.
According to his Facebook page, Kang’Ethe was from Nairobi, Kenya, and moved to Worcester, where he went to Doherty Memorial High School. A statement from UMass Amherst said Kang’Ethe was studying computer engineering.
He was also involved with the Cultural Exchange Through Soccer, a Worcester-based organization, and spent time volunteering there. He received a scholarship from the program this year, according to its Facebook page.

Kang’Ethe’s family reported him missing after not hearing from him since Sunday, various Facebook posts from family members said.
His uncle has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses. It had raised nearly $3,000 as of Friday afternoon.
“We extend our sincere condolences to Erick’s family and friends,” interim dean of students David Vaillancourt said in a statement Wednesday. The school said it would update its student loss and remembrance page with any arrangements the Kang’Ethe family wants to share.
