Facebook threat against N.H. school was made by relative of former student, police say
“Revenge between the suspect and the unwitting account holder appears to be the motive for this incident."
The Facebook account of a former New Hampshire high school student was allegedly used by a relative to post a message threatening the school, authorities said.
Police in Concord, New Hampshire, said they were able to quickly identify the individuals involved Sunday after the post appeared on social media, and classes at the school continued as usual Monday, The Concord Monitor reports.
“The investigation revealed that a relative of the account holder gained access to the account holder’s Facebook account and posted a message that was easily interpreted as threatening to school safety,” Concord police Lt. Sean Ford told the newspaper.
Authorities have not identified the 22-year-old behind the post, but said the individual has never attended Concord High School, The Monitor reports.
In a press release, officials said, “Revenge between the suspect and the unwitting account holder appears to be the motive for this incident,” the newspaper reports.
Police are considering pursuing criminal charges as the investigation continues, according to The Monitor.
