Firefighters noticed that a car that was parked between the two homes was on fire, and the flames spread to the two homes, according to Boston 25.  No one was injured in the blaze, Somerville officials said.

“We heard a giant boom,” 13-year-old resident Leonardo Fuentes told the Globe. “We looked out the window and saw it was a fire.”

A resident of one of the homes told 7 News he went to each apartment and woke his fellow residents.

“I saw like firecrackers from my room,” Chris Jeffrey-Paul told the news station. “I woke up and saw from the window that the fire was burning so I knocked on everyone’s door making sure my roommates were out.”

Somerville Fire Chief Charles Breen said a third home sustained water damage, according to WBZ.

“I believe that the smoke alarms were working,” he said, according to the news station. “Because when you have fires start outside the building, it gets a jump and by the time it gets inside it’s going to spread quickly and the alarms have to go off to get out fast.”
