Coast Guard searching for 2 missing New England boaters

Ryan Hollis and Joshua Kane Cairone were bound for Miami, according to authorities.

The Coast Guard is searching for two men who are missing after departing Rhode Island aboard a sailboat bound for Miami last week. Authorities said 40-year-old Ryan Hollis left Jamestown on Wednesday aboard his his 43-foot Benneteau sailing boat, the Carol K. Hollis was initially heading for Norfolk, Virginia, but his ultimate destination was Miami. The Coast Guard said it is also searching for passenger Joshua Kane Cairone and Louiś, a Frenchie bulldog.“This post shows them 12 [nautical miles] south of #Newport, RI,” the Coast Guard said Sunday morning, sharing a photo posted to Facebook on Wednesday. “Urgent marine bulletins are being broadcasted along the eastern seaboard, air crews are up searching.”

CBS Boston reports Hollis was reported missing by his girlfriend after he failed to check in with her on Friday. 

According to his personal business website, Hollis lives in Portsmouth and worked installing solar energy systems. 

“I am an Army Veteran and a father of 3 boys, living the dream “off the grid” on my 43 ft Sailboat,” Hollis wrote on his website. “I am passionate about harnessing renewable energy and making an effort to reduce our ‘carbon footprint’ on the Earth.” 

According to his social media page, Cairone also lives in Portsmouth and worked as a carpenter.
