Photos capture shark tearing into a seal off Nauset Beach

Cape Cod’s shark season isn’t over yet. Photos capturing a great white chomping on a seal off the north side of Nauset Beach over the weekend should serve as a warning that the ocean predators are still present off the Massachusetts coast, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy said Tuesday. “This is another reminder that October is a peak month for white shark activity off Cape Cod,” the nonprofit said.

Photographer Nick Haveran snapped the moment, which he estimated happened less than 50 yards offshore, around 1:30 on Saturday.

Haveran wrote on Instagram that he was walking on the north end of the beach when he took the photos.
“Actually happened behind me, and probably the only way I ended up catching this was hearing someone yell ‘SHARK!’” the photographer wrote. “Lucky for me, I thought to bring my trusty Tamron 150-600mm with me. A sight I won’t soon forget.”

The season for peak shark activity off the Cape runs from August through October.
