Police are continuing to investigate the Sunday crash.

Stoneham police are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run crash that injured four children Sunday night. The four children were near the intersection of Elm Street and MacArthur Road with their bicycles when a dark-colored vehicle, traveling westbound on Elm, struck them around 6:38 p.m., according to police“The vehicle then struck a parked vehicle in the driveway,” police said. “Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle backed out of the driveway and fled the scene while one of the children’s bicycles was lodged underneath the fleeing vehicle.”The four kids, who were all either 12 or 13 years old, were treated at the scene by EMS, with two ultimately transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

“We were all just standing here talking, and then we heard tires screeching, and the car rammed into us,” one of the kids, 13-year-old Vincenzo Guarino, told the Boston Herald. “We all thought they were going to keep going after us. It beeped the horn at us and then zoomed down the street.”

According to the newspaper, the crash was captured by neighbor James McKinnon’s surveillance cameras. He was watching football when he heard two girls screaming outside. When he went to the window he saw two girls and two boys playing outside with their bikes. Seconds later the car struck them.

One of the girls, 13-year-old Julia Cabral, is using crutches and told the Herald the driver should be ashamed for driving off.

“I got hit straight on,” she said. “I just remember seeing headlights and then trying to get away because I didn’t know if they were going to hit us again.”

Danill DeTomasi told WCVB his daughter was the driver and apologized for the crash. She has said she will turn herself into police, he told the station.

“I just thank God that nobody got seriously hurt (and) nobody died,” DeTomasi said. “I want the right thing to be done. You know, she did wrong and she’s got to take care of it.”

Stoneham police said Tuesday the incident remains under investigation but did not comment further.
