Watch: Woman captured on video riding motorized bike down Expressway
"Yo. Where's the police?"
Driving on the Southeast Expressway can make even the most seasoned drivers frustrated. Try adding a woman riding what appears to be a motorized scooter or moped into the mix.
Autumn Lopez posted a video of the incident – she said she spotted the bicyclist between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The woman appears to be riding along the shoulder near Exit 13, sporting a tank top and shorts.
“What is she doing?” someone in the background of the video can be heard asking. “Yo. Where’s the police?”
After watching the video, Lt. Thomas Ryan of the state police said that while it’s difficult to tell what the woman is riding – he couldn’t determine if it’s a motor scooter or a moped – neither are allowed on the highway, according to the law. If someone is caught riding one, they’re charged a $30 fine.
In this case, the woman would have also had an additional $30 fine tacked on because she doesn’t appear to be wearing a helmet, said Ryan.
