A dad allegedly punched a Cambridge school bus driver in front of children

The father was reportedly upset with how the driver was talking to children on the bus.

A 29-year-old dad reportedly punched a school bus driver Tuesday morning because he was upset with how the driver was talking to children on the bus, according to the Cambridge Police Department.

Department spokesman Jeremy Warnick confirmed the parent confronted the driver around 7 a.m. at 402 Rindge Ave.

After a verbal fight, the dad allegedly punched the driver in front of the bus full of elementary school-aged children.

The 45-year-old driver, who works for a bus company contracted by Cambridge Public Schools, was taken to a local hospital for head pain.

Neither party has pursued charges, Warnick said.

Cambridge Public Schools spokeswoman Rosalie Rippey said Wednesday there is video footage of the incident that is being reviewed, and more information would be sent out to parents and community members shortly.

She said the first priority after the fight was to get all of the students to school and make sure they felt safe.

The owner of Eastern Bus, the company used by the school district, could not be reached for comment Wednesday, but Rippey said the driver has not been suspended.
