Woman in her 60s dies after being hit by truck in Harvard Square

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday near the Out of Town News newsstand.

The woman who was hit by a truck Tuesday morning in Harvard Square has died, according to the Middlesex district attorney’s office. She was in her 60s.She was hit just before 7 a.m. and taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.A preliminary investigation suggests the woman was trying to cross the street at the time of the incident, the DA’s office said. She was reportedly not in a crosswalk.The woman was struck by an orange semi-trailer truck that appears to belong to a lumber company. The incident happened on Brattle Street near the Out of Town News newsstand.

The truck driver stayed at the scene. A Tuesday afternoon statement from the DA’s office said no charges had been filed.

Cambridge police spokesman Jeremy Warnick said the area of the crash was taped off Tuesday morning and there were “significant traffic impacts.”
