Man fatally struck by commuter rail train in Gloucester
Commuters were told to expect delays on the Newburyport/Rockport Line throughout the morning's service.
Commuter rail passengers were facing delays on several lines Thursday morning after authorities say a person was struck by a train in Gloucester.MBTA Transit Police said officers responded to the report of a person struck by a train around 6:20 a.m. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the man was hit by an inbound commuter rail train while he was “trespassing on the right away.” He was pronounced dead from his injuries, and police were continuing to investigate the incident.Justin Thompson, a spokesman for Keolis, which operates the commuter rail, said that as a result of the police activity, delays were expected on the Newburyport/Rockport Line “throughout this morning’s service.”“Passengers should check MBTA.com and @MBTA_CR for service updates,” he said.According to the transit website, shuttle buses were running between Rockport and West Gloucester, and passengers on the line were told to expect delays of more than an hour.“Haverhill, Lowell and Fitchburg passengers may experience delays in both directions due to major disruptions on the Rockport/Newburyport line caused by police activity near Gloucester,” the MBTA said.Follow updates below: Tweets by MBTA_CR
