A 71-year-old Methuen man was killed and two children were injured Thursday in a head-on collision with a cement truck.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on North Road in Bedford, according to a release. The deceased man’s name has not been released.
The 71-year-old was driving a 2010 Honda CR-V that veered into oncoming traffic and hit a Boston Concrete cement truck, police said.
The crash caused the truck to hit a utility pole with a transformer, which left North Road and its surrounding streets without power Thursday afternoon.

The two children, who were in the SUV, were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. Boston 25 News reported one of the children was the man’s 11-year-old grandson, the other was a 10-year-old boy.
“I’m here to tell you all the seat belts saved those children’s lives. That was what saved them,” Bedford Police Officer Jeffrey French told NBC10 Boston.
The cement truck driver declined medical treatment at the scene.
“The truck driver tried to evade as best he could, but he just didn’t have enough time,” French told WHDH.
