NH police take custody of man accused of firing at officer

Police say they pulled the man over in the early morning hours of Saturday when he fired at an officer.

ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Police in New Hampshire have taken a man accused of firing a gun at a police officer into custody.

Police say they pulled the man over in the early morning hours of Saturday when he then fired shots toward a Rochester police officer and fled into the woods. The officer wasn’t hit.

WMUR-TV reports police set up a perimeter in the area and located the man by helicopter. Police haven’t named the man, who they say was placed into custody at about 9 a.m. and taken to hospital for a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted.

Authorities advised residents of a nearby mobile home park to shelter in place while the search was taking place.
