“All the big decisions in the city were made at the Bagel Bin,” city councilor Ira Novoselsky said.

Just hours after a Monday night fire destroyed a landmark Revere bagel shop, its owners vowed to rebuild. The Bagel Bin and Deli had been open for more than 30 years, according to its website. The fire was called in around 11:30 p.m. and reached four alarms in a little over an hour, The Boston Globe reportedFirefighters battling the flames were forced out of the building as its roof began to collapse, WBZ reported. No one was injured, but the bagel shop appears to be a total loss. It is unclear how the fire started.

“We called it the little city hall,” he said. “All the big decisions in the city were made at the Bagel Bin.”

Novoselsky said he’s been eating breakfast at the Bagel Bin every morning for the past 20 years.

“People knew to find me there,” he said. “It was like I was holding office hours for my constituents.”

When he heard the news of the fire Tuesday morning, he got dressed in “about 10 seconds” and ran down to the store. He said the shop’s owners are like family to him.

The Bagel Bin’s website says it serves breakfast, pizza, burgers, and more. It had just remodeled this spring.
