Chris Twyman of Milton was shooting video of his St. Bernard puppy, Khan, running around his yard last week when he realized Kahn wasn’t the only animal out there.
“All of a sudden he started doing this bouncy thing, which he normally does when he sees other dogs,” Twyman told Boston.com. “And I just saw this big coyote walking along the back.”
While Twyman is accustomed to hearing coyotes at night, and occasionally spots them, this may have been the largest he’s seen. He said he didn’t realize the coyote’s size until he saw it next to his 160-pound dog. Twyman, who is six-foot-three, says Kahn comes face-to-face with him when the dog stands on his hind legs.
In the video, the coyote can be seen baring its teeth as it passes by Kahn.
“The coyote was not afraid at all,” Twyman said. “I was so happy the fence was there because my dog’s big but dopey, so I think he would have not done too well if they would have had a fight.”
According to Twyman, his neighbors have spotted the animal since the encounter. Although he hasn’t seen it, he’s heard a coyote family with puppies at night.
