Body of 18-year-old missing swimmer pulled from Upper Mystic Lake
State police divers found the teen in 20 feet of water.
Authorities are investigating the apparent drowning of an 18-year-old Medford man at Upper Mystic Lake. The Middlesex District Attorney’s office said state, Medford, and Tufts University police responded just after 8 p.m. on Monday to the area near the Tufts Sailing Pavilion on the lake for a report of a possible drowning. State police divers were deployed to search for the missing swimmer, and he was found in about 20 feet of water. First responders began life-saving efforts at the scene, and the 18-year-old was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 10 p.m., according to the DA’s office. “The preliminary investigation suggests the man was unable to swim and that he entered the water and immediately appeared to be in distress before going beneath the surface,” the DA’s office said in a statement. No foul play is suspected, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
