“The cruiser was severely damaged on both sides and the officer was trapped inside."

A Worcester police officer was taken to a hospital with severe injuries after a three-car crash trapped him in his unmarked cruiser Tuesday afternoon. The officer was driving the cruiser south on Grove Street at about 1:15 p.m. when a Subaru Impreza drove through a stop sign on Chester Street and struck the cruiser’s passenger side, according to a release. The collision pushed the cruiser into the way of oncoming traffic at the corner of Grove and Chester streets, and a Honda Civic then collided with the cruiser’s driver side.
