Person fatally struck by commuter rail train in Hanson

Officials warned travelers to expect “severe delays” on the Kingston/Plymouth line.

A man was struck and killed early Wednesday by an inbound Kingston/Plymouth line commuter rail train in Hanson, according to authorities.MBTA Transit Police said officers responded to the report of a person struck by a train near the Hanson station around 6 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicates the man was walking on the right of way near 1070 Main St. when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation, according to police. Hanson police closed Route 27 from Elm to Phillips Street.

All passengers traveling on the commuter rail line were warned to expect “severe delays.” Keolis, the operator of the commuter rail, said on Twitter that passengers will be bussed between the Halifax and Whitman stations to meet trains for continued service while police activity is ongoing in Hanson.
