Connecticut police are searching for a 50-year-old mother of five who was last seen Friday in New Caanan, a suburb approximately 30 miles outside of New York City.
Authorities bolstered efforts this week to locate Jennifer Dulos, who was driving a black 2017 Chevrolet Suburban SUV before she was reported missing, according to New Canaan police.
In a statement to Fox 61, her family and friends, pleading for information to assist in her safe return, described Dulos as “very slender, 5’7″, with a soft voice, dark brown eyes, and shoulder-length brown hair.”
“Those who know Jennifer know her to be a devoted mother; an extremely thoughtful, reliable, and organized woman; and attest that she would never, ever, disappear when she is responsible for the lives of five loving and energetic children,” the statement says. “Jennifer is gentle, kind, intelligent, and funny, and above all she prioritizes the health and happiness of her children.”
Dulos, who has lived with her children in a rented New Canaan house since 2017, was first reported missing Friday by her mother and a friend, The Stamford Advocate reports.
Police issued a silver alert for Dulos Saturday and, in an Instagram post Tuesday, said her SUV was found the day she went missing.
Aided by the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit Tuesday, authorities searched a wooded area not far from Dulos’s Welles Lane home, according to the Advocate. On Wednesday, investigators moved their focus to Waveny Park, a 300-acre park near the Merritt Parkway.
In their statement, family and friends of Dulos said she previously lived with her family in Farmington, “where she was a beloved class parent among the Renbrook School community.”
She is the mother of two sets of twins and a daughter, all between the ages of 8 and 13, the Advocate reports.
Dulos is currently amid a contentious divorce process with her husband, Fotis Dulos, the Hartford Courant reports.
A separate legal battle alleges Fotis Dulos owes his in-laws over $2.5 million — a sum stemming from business transactions with Jennifer Dulos’s late father, according to the Courant.
Until at least 2012, Jennifer Dulos wrote blog posts for Avon’s Patch website, where her biography says she was formerly a writer and journalist in New York and holds a master’s in writing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, according to the newspaper.
Her family was “embraced by the New Canaan Country School community” and are active in athletic and art programs, the statement says.
Family and friends said they are touched by the support they have received from those in Farmington, Avon, West Hartford, and the New Canaan Country School, and thanked law enforcement officials for their efforts.
“Since learning of the disappearance of Jennifer Farber Dulos, our beloved daughter, mother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend, we have been heartbroken,” the statement says. “At the same time, we are moved and inspired by the support, assistance, concern, and love extended by so many.”
They are hopeful Jennifer Dulos will be found soon, they said.
